75 Teaching Tips to Survive & Thrive in the High School Classroom

Education is on the front burner with bullying, NCLB, and disconnected students.  Everyone wants to see change, especially our students who in a survey quoted boredom as their biggest frustration.  Struggling to find the purpose for what they’re learning, stuck in old schools with outdated teaching methods, students are dropping out at higher rates and graduating without the skills society needs.

The quickest vehicle for change is the classroom teacher.  This book shares 75 practical tips that any teacher can duplicate based on the often humorous journey experienced by one teacher who took an unusual path and created a style that changed the lives of her students and her entire school.

Marianne Douglas is a 28-year veteran of the high school classroom, as a math teacher and also the creator and teacher of Strategies for Success, an anti-bullying leadership/ success program.

She was named Teacher of the Year for her school and district for the success of the Strategies program, national finalist in Cable in the Classroom Leaders in Learning and was the recipient of Special Congressional Recognition from the United States Senate.

She was nominated as a hero for the Oprah Winfrey Show for her Strategies for Success program and her work with bullying and is the recipient in 2012 of the Jefferson Award and the Rhode Island College Alumni Service Award.

Marianne is a motivational speaker and educational consultant working with both educators and teens.  She may be reached at Marianne@MarianneDouglas.com

"How to you define extra-ordinary?  I have been honored to observe Marianne teach her Strategies for Success program to a group of 8th graders.  She quickly developed a relationship with them and made them feel comfortable.  Marianne has the innate ability to make learning fun and easy.  Her positive attitude and techniques made the class a pleasure for students and teacher.  She motivated the students to want to learn more."
